As Bev and Paul had to go to Surrey yesterday and it was such a glorious day, they decided to make a day of it by visiting Jane Austen's house at Chawton. They took us bears and Tony the Chimp as well, and we all had a yummy picnic in the woods!
Jane Austen is Bev's favourite author, so she was over the moon at actually visiting her house and seeing the desk where she wrote her wonderful books. The house was beautifully preserved with displays showing how Jane and her close family and servants lived.
The displays also included letters from Jane and her family, illustrations from an early edition of Pride and Prejudice, clothes they would have worn, the type of bed Jane and her sister Cassandra would have slept in, as well as jewellery and every day objects they used.

We would definitely recommend visiting Jane's house if you happen to find yourself in Hampshire. The displays and house are fascinating. Afterwards, you can stroll long the lane to see Chawton House, which was owned by Jane's brother, and the church where her mother and sister (both called Cassandra) are buried. Jane herself is buried at Winchester Cathedral.
