Kitty's Glucose Curve - great progress!

We had to take Kitty for his 3-monthly glucose curve this week, so that the vet could see how he was getting on with his insulin injections.  He has been absolutely fantastic recently and is his old bouncy, feisty self again.  But image our amazement when we were told that he was doing so well that they don't need to see him again for 6 months!

They did point out that he has now put on all the weight he lost and more, so he is now a whopping 6.2 kilos, which is 13lbs 6oz!  Eeek, no wonder my legs go numb when he sits on them for any length of time!  But he isn't fat, he's just a healthy fighting weight, though the vet doesn't want him to get much bigger.

Kitty Cat - good news!

We took Kitty to the vet yesterday for his glucose curve, but they were concerned because his glucose levels had dropped significantly after his morning injection.  So, they kept him in overnight, tested again this morning, and he had a perfect curve.  So, what does that mean?
It means we have his diabetes under control, and he doesn't have to go back to the vet's for 3 months!
The humans are delighted- they have their healthy Kitty cat back again, and their bank balance will be a lot healthier now that Kitty doesn't have to go for weekly curves.

Poor Kitty

Poor Kitty has been unwell since Christmas, and our former tubby tabby is now a shadow of his former self :-( After numerous tests, we discovered that he has diabetes, and he has started on a course of insulin injections.  So, last Monday evening at 8pm, Bev and Paul were at the vets learning how to inject Kitty - they started by injecting him with water, but then Paul administered the real insulin injection.  Since then, Bev has been doing the injections as she has to be comfortable doing these on her own when Paul is at the racing or working away from home.  And as backup, she has given us bears her old Red Cross badges and demonstrated what needs to be done!

Kitty is already looking much better and has slowly started to put on weight.  We'll keep you posted on his progress.

Kitty looking ultra-cute!

Kitty by Bev & Paul Mynott
Kitty, a photo by Bev & Paul Mynott on Flickr.
When Bev got home from work last night, Kitty was snoozing on the bed and looking adorable, as usual. His green eyes were particularly spectacular, so Bev took some photographs to show everyone just how adorable he is!

Tubby or Tabby cat?

Kitty was taken to the vet today to get his injections, and she said he was a TUBBY cat!  The silly vet obviously got mixed up between TUBBY and TABBY!  No wonder he spat at her - actually, I think she is very lucky to still be enjoying the use of 10 fingers!  Kitty is big (5.9 kg to be precise), but he is a lean, mean, fighting machine without an ounce of fat!  And his tailor has given him a very thick winter coat, which must weigh all of 3 kgs on its own!

We bears, on the other paw, are definitely tubby with or without our winter clothing, but we are supposed to be like that!

Never mind, none of us are going to change our eating habits just because a vet can't tell the difference between TABBY and TUBBY!

Kitty is a Flickr star!

We always knew that Kitty was a star, and it would appear that people on Flickr agree - the last two photographs Bev added to Flickr have had over 100 views each!

And here are the most popular photographs of Kitty on Flickr:
Kitty relaxing, though he is peeking at Bev to make sure she doesn't get too close with that camera lens!  This has had 101 views so far and counting....

And this was the first photograph Bev had with over 100 views - it shows Kitty watching the birds in the garden:  This photograph has had 105 views to-date.

Edward Scissor-Paws!

This our new name for Kitty, who is making up for his lack of teef by growing the longest, sharpest claws in the world!  They are the scariest claws we have ever seen - they would skewer several mice at once, and perhaps that is what Kitty does at cat barbecues!

So, if you see a cat with incredibly long claws and no teef, you know that Edward Scissor-Paws has crossed your path!  Be afraid, be very afraid!

Kitty - good news and bad news!

Well, the good news is that Kitty has regained the shed, and has taken to sleeping there rather a lot recently.  As a matter of fact, we were having difficulty getting him out the shed, and then spotted the problem (the bad news) - his front right leg had swollen up to twice its normal size and he could hardly walk!

So, poor Kitty had an emergency visit to the vet.  He was very brave (Kitty, not the vet), and didn't complain even when the vet ripped a huge lump of fur off his leg and it started spurting disgusting puss all over the table - actually, Bev was making more noise than Kitty and the vet hadn't even started on her yet!

After having the wound dressed and a couple of injections (antibiotics and a painkiller), Kitty was feeling so much better that he was ready to go out fighting again!

So, to our little gladiator and brave warrior, get well soon Kitty!

Kitty Bugner Part 2

Well, Kitty is definitely feeling better and greatly refreshed after his 2-day sleep.  And just to let everyone know how much better he was feeling and that he had caught a big, fat juicy mouse, he was wailing outside our window at 1am!

His nose is still swollen on one side but it looks a lot better than it did a couple of days ago!

Kitty Bugner!

Kitty excelled himself yesterday morning by fighting with another cat and keeping the entire neighbourhood awake from 5am with his caterwauling!  That cat needs a volume control - he obviously tries to deafen his opponents before beating the crap out of them!

Anyway, he came in at 7am covered in bites and scratches, but seemed ok though he just wanted to sleep.  But when Bev came home from work, she found him still asleep and his nose has swollen up and spread across his face!  He looks like the kitty version of Joe Bugner, the boxer, after a particularly vicious fight!  He (Kitty, not Joe) also has a large lump on the back of his head.  We can only assume one grumpy sleeper threw something at the fighting cats and hit Kitty on the head or that he banged his head on something, but he is looking very sorry for himself :-(

After a full night's sleep, he has had something to eat and drink, and has now gone back to sleep.  Paws crossed he is on the road to recovery and hasn't damaged his cute looks too much.

Cute Kitty Cat :-)

Yesterday evening, an RSPCA van drove slowly round our road, clearly searching for something.  So, who were they looking for?  Yup, the ugly cat!  We bears secretly phoned the RSPCA to tell them about a VERY ugly stray cat which was s caring the locals, hoping they would pick up Kitty's nemesis.  However, we're not sure they managed to find him but don't worry Kitty, the bears and Tony are on the case!

The good thing is that the RSPCA would never confuse Kitty with an UGLY cat - just look at this cute pose!

Kitty's Nemesis and our secret weapon

Kitty's nemesis is now the Ugly Cat, the huge brute of a cat who had driven him out of his shed, and who sprays the garage door and our front door!  The smell in our garage and hallway is digusting, so this calls for drastic action!  Paul and Bev took Bill, Tony and myself to Toys R Us to get a Supersoaker, so we can now spray the ugly cat with jets of water if he comes anywhere near the house!
Don't worry Kitty, we're here to help - while you use your claws and remaining teef, we will use the supersoaker, and with any luck we will drive the ugly cat away!

Kitty's Secret Lair

Paul has discovered Kitty's Secret Lair - the place where he sleeps while he is waiting for us to come home.  And it is not a pretty sight.  This is where he has his trophy collection - bones and the remains of mice he has killed but not quite finished eating.  Gruesome or what Mr Kitty Cat?  Just don't bring any of that into the house or you will be evicted.  I'm having enough problems preventing Bill and Phoebe from dragging dead seals into the house, so I'm not going to allow you to bring your half-eaten, rotting remains into the house!  You have been warned!

Pretty Kitty Cat

Bev has continued to experiment her camera, this time taking some photographs of Kitty.  As the indoor lighting wasn't bright enough, Paul fetched his industrial torch to provide more candle-power.  So, with Paul as "Lighting Director", Bev as "Chief Photographer" and Kitty as the patient and photogenic model, they got the following results.  Phoebe is so impressed that she has booked a modelling session next week!

Moody lighting from Paul.

Definitely a photograph for Kitty's portfolio!

An experimental shot, and finally a cute shot without the dramatic lighting....

Kitty and keyboards

Well, Kitty might look cute lying on Paul's keyboard, but we didn't think he was quite so cute when he stood on Paul's keyboard the following night, causing it to crash!  Oh no, how are us bears and Paul going to keep up with all our bids on eBay, we cried?

Luckily, Bev loves a challenge, so she came home from work, rolled up her sleeves, took the battery out and put it back in again, rebooted the laptop, muttered some magic words and hey presto, the computer worked!  But Kitty is now banned from looking cute on the keyboard!

Kitty wants attention!

When Kitty wants attention, he wants it NOW!  And he knows how to get it too - by looking cute or just by sitting on whatever you are doing at the time.  Here is an example of Kitty getting attention and preventing Paul from buying any more crap from eBay :-)

Snow, snow and more snow!

Yup, it's that time of year again, with lots of snow, freezing temperatures and high winds, creating blizzard conditions!  Phoebe and Bill were very excited and headed off into the snow looking for seals, while Tony and I snuggled up in bed to keep warm!  Who wants to eat some cold rubbery seal when you have sizzling hot pizza or juicy burgers!  Kitty agreed with us and stayed indoors too.

Here is Kitty outside in the snow - he is clearly not a happy cat, though I wouldn't be happy either if the snow was up to my oxters and making my tummy wet!

Kitty went out briefly this morning, but when Bev opened the door 10 minutes later, Kitty flew in the door and skidded along the tiled hall floor until he reached the carpet in the lounge!  We're not sure if his little feet were frozen or just covered in snow, but he looked relieved to be back on terra firma!

Flu / Swine Flu / Bird Flu - who knows?

Oh dear, poor Bev and Paul have been suffering from a ghastly bug / virus for the last 3 weeks.  We're not sure what kind of flu it is - piggy, bird or normal flu - but it has given them a nasty hacking cough and left them feeling lethargic. Even poor Kitty seems to be under the weather at the moment.

Luckily, we bears have missed all these bugs and colds, though we do feel lethargic, but what's new?  We always lounge around in bed all day, get up for a snackette or two, and then go back to bed for a post-snackette snooze.  It sounds like our humans and Kitty have been working too hard and need to chill out more to avoid all those nasty bugs!

Paul's Climate Control Underpants!

At the weekend Paul decided he needed some new clothes and bought some Climate Control Underpants!  We bears were bemused and are trying to work out what these underpants can do to control the climate - our suggestions are:
  • keep his wind under control, thereby reducing methane emissions and saving the polar bears
  • need less washing as they come in an exciting range of beige and browns, which are very handy for disguising skid marks!
Feel free to add any suggestions of your own.

Anyway, here is a photograph of me modelling Paul's Climate Control Underpants - actually, the front pouch is excellent for holding my crown jewels AND snackettes, while the rear section is reinforced for storing methane until it can be safely be disposed of:

We are also recommending these underpants to Carlos, who, according to The Nice Lady from Stirling, suffers from exploding trousers!

And what does Kitty think of Paul's new underwear?  He laughed so much his head almost fell off :-)
