Ok, Bev has started work again, this time for a county council. She loves her new job because it is like working in a miniature city, since the building contains its own bank, cash machine, canteen, coffee shop and - wait for it - a LIBRARY! Yup, she can still go to the library while she is at work! Is this woman in heaven or what?
Anyway, the point of this posting is that she has noticed something quite interesting, something that has puzzled her for ages but has now become much clearer - the staff at this council match the diversity of the British population since they include people from all ethnic groups, all ages, and people with disabilities, including people in wheelchairs and with crutches. And this got Bev thinking - why has she not seen this diversity in the staff at any other place she has worked, except for the BBC? Does industry really operate an equal opportunities policy? Bev knows someone who is mildly disabled, but when he went for an interview he was told he would be a fire hazard as it takes him a while to go down the stairs. Funny how this doesn't seem to faze the county council, which has policies in place for such situations.
Just some serious thoughts - I know it's not my usual style but Bev has been bending my ears about it, so I thought it would be interesting to see what you thought. But don't worry, we have plenty of bizarre postings in the pipelines, including Paul going commando style at the racing when his knicker elastic snapped.
