The Commute from Hell!

Yup, Bev has had a "commute from Hell - over 4 hours of gridlock-chaos to get to work on Monday morning. The snow had mostly disappeared, though the roads were still icy in places, but that didn't stop people driving dangerously and too fast. Bev used the motorways and dual carriageways to get to work, thinking that it would be safer and faster than the little country lanes - BIG MISTAKE! A white vanman was going too fast on the A41 road to Aylesbury, hit the crash barrier and rolled the van, which meant that by the time Bev arrived the road was closed and the traffic was being redirected into Hemel Hempstead. Hemel was gridlocked because of the vast amount of traffic trying to come off the A41 and a similar amount of traffic trying to get onto the A41 but being turned back! Arrgghh, it was hell, and Bev was more than 2 hours late for work!

The return journey was done on the country lanes, which were either icy or flooded, so poor Bev had another tortuous journey, but this time it only took 2 hours instead of 4.

Needless to say, when Bev came through the door she looked shell-shocked, so we poured her a large cider and made her sit down while Paul made the dinner. She looked much more relaxed after 3 cans of cider though she was beginning to slur her words!

The cheery bits of this dire tale are:
  • the white van man survived, though he was rushed to hospital in a serious condition. We hope you get better soon and you drive more sensibly in the future!
  • During her drive to and from work, Bev managed to listen to all of her Stereophonics playlist, which has 75 tracks and lasted for 5 hours - it was bliss! Thank God for the iPod, the only gadget that keeps Bev sane during her commute!
