The weather was not as cold or wet as we were expecting, so Bev and Paul were as warm as toast in their 3 layers of thermals, sweatshirts, fleeces, jackets and waterproof trousers, as well as woolly hats and gloves.
The racing from the Ministox, F1s and Heritage Cars was brilliant and very entertaining, with lots of rufty-tufty pushing and shoving for positions in every race.
Frankie was racing Dave Hopkins' car because he has sold his tarmac car, and he drove fast and brilliantly to come in 2nd in his first heat and he won his 2nd heat. In the final, he was in front pole position but Stuart Smith Jnr was determined to get past, so tried to push Frankie into the wall (which failed) but then managed to take both himself and Frankie out on the bottom corner. Frankie extricated himself from the pile-up, but he was now last in the race. Oh no, what a disaster! Frankie then put his foot to the floor and raced brilliantly to come in a very creditable 2nd in the race, which is stunning considering that he had been last at one point. Stuart came in 4th or 5th - he will learn that taking Frankie out isn't always the wisest thing to do because 4 times out of 5 you will take yourself out as well!
Romantic Paul bought Bev a Christmas present at the track - a framed photograph of Frankie's last final win at Hednesford, where his brakes were glowing orange because he was driving so fast and braking so hard. This is the photograph from Stoxnet:
