Weekend's racing at Skegness

Ok, so what can I say about our weekend at Skegness Stadium?
Well, the weather was brilliant, so we were sitting outside in t-shirts drinking cider and cheering on our favourite drivers.

The racing was superb - and while Frankie didn't retain his British Drivers' Championship, he came in a very creditable 2nd, as well as winning the Skegness Stadium Seaside Special, and racing in blistering form on Sunday beating both the Smith Brothers with real panache! Stuart Smith attempted a big hit on Frankie on the last corner but missed the back of Frankie's car, and as Frankie romped across the finish line in 2nd place he waved out his window to Stuart who had gone wide on the corner and struggled to retain 3rd place. The crowd were on their feet cheering and shouting for their favourite drivers - it was lots of fun.

Daniel Wainman won all three races on Saturday evening in the Ministox formula, including British Drivers' Championship, but on Sunday he was taken out by Georgia Neachell and ended up with an injured arm. People were worried that Daniel had broken his arm and wouldn't be able to race at his dad's testamonial in November, but as someone on Stoxnet pointed out, this is a family where racing with broken / injured arms is nothing new - apparently Frankie Junior raced with a plaster cast on his arm, arguing that there was nothing in the rule book to say he couldn't. The following year Bev spotted a new rule in the BSCDA rule book (yes, she's sad enough to read it from cover to cover each year) saying no driver could race with a plaster cast and she wondered who had attempted it - the answer was Frankie Junior! Anyway, paws crossed Daniel only has an injured rather than broken arm.

Oh, and the racing wasn't the only place where there was some action - the B&B we stayed in was ok apart from the people in the next room who came back in the wee small hours of the morning and decided to continue partying in their room. At 4.30am Paul lost the plot and phoned the owners to complain about the noise - we were expecting handbags at dawn so hid under the bed, but the owners sorted it out by evicting the noisy people and leaving us all to snooze on until it was time to get up for breakfast. Here we are catching up on the big zeds after our eventful night.

So, a fun-filled weekend was had by all (except the evictees). Next weekend is Birmingham and Northampton, so we're gearing up for it already.
