Bev had to leave Paul at Blackpool on the way south, as he had to be on a training course first thing Monday morning. So, she then headed across country to Kings Lynn using her navigation device! We went on a very scenic route via Salford, Macclesfield, Buxton, Mansfield, Chesterfield, Sleaford and on to Kings Lynn, but we were in a hurry to get there to watch the racing! We were all getting panicky, as we had to be there by 6pm but had no idea where we were going - not until we spotted signs for Lincoln. Phew, we made it with half-an-hour to spare!
It was a beautiful evening - warm and sunny, and we discovered it was the first Semi-Final. Frankie had chosen this one as his semi-final (as the top points scorer, he can chose which semi-final he wants to be in). But what a disaster! Carlos wasn't allowed to race because the repairs he made after his roll-over at Cowdenbeath weren't considered safe enough. Then they over-watered the shale track, so when the race started there was a pile-up involving Frankie and he got a puncture, so had to pull off! Oh no, so Frankie, his dad and Carlos haven't qualified for the World Final. More woes for us little bears (and Bev), and not the best end to our wonderful holiday. The semi-final was won by John Lund, and Andy Smith won the evening's final, with Frankie only managing a 2nd in the Grand National.
Photograph above shows poor Frankie surveying the damage to his car.
