Savill Gardens, Windsor

With a relatively dry and warm bank holiday Monday on the cards, Bev and Paul decided to head off to Savill Gardens at Windsor, taking us bears and Paul's mum with them.  The plan was to look round the gardens, take photographs and have a delicious picnic.  We bears did have plans to knock on the door of Windsor Castle and tell the Queen we had come for tea and to play with the corgies, but she was wasn't in unfortunately :-(

The gardens were very pretty, though some of the plants were sadly past their best.  We visited the new Rose garden, which was stunning, with a  huge variety of roses of different colours and the most amazing scent!  There is a ramp which takes you above the flowers so that you can stand and inhale the beautiful, sweet smell of the roses.  This was our favourite part of the garden, and there were plenty of bees for us to follow home for some honey!

We had our picnic by the Obelisk, as no eating is allowed in the gardens.  Bev and Paul had brought their fancy picnic hamper, so we had a POSH lunch with napkins and cutlery.  What is wrong with paws, we ask?   Anyway, we all had sandwiches, yogurts and lots of cake, then spent more time walking round the gardens.

Bev had her trusty camera with her and took some shots but wasn't sure she had managed to get anything interesting.  However, when she downloaded the photographs from the camera, she had this one, which we rather like, even if it isn't a bee - it's a hover fly:

We would definitely recommend the Savill Gardens and the rest of Windsor Great Park as a place to go for a day out - there is plenty to see and do, and you can always invite yourself to tea with the Queen if you get peckish!
