Stowe Gardens, Buckinghamshire

It's the May bank holiday and the forecast is for rain :-(  But not on Sunday, so Bev and Paul packed up the car and headed off to Stowe Gardens in Buckinghamshire.  They were hoping for something similar to Wrest Park at Silsoe - large grounds, pretty views, lots to photograph.

So, what was it like?  Well, it was like Wrest Park but it was also very different.  Designed and created by Lord Cobham and his nephew Earl Temple, it is a vast park full of hidden treasures and beautiful views.  There are approximately 41 classical temples, buildings, and pillars in the park, as well as wooded areas and large open spaces.  The park has more hills than Wrest Park, so you either need to be quite fit or hire the electric golf carts that can take you to most parts of the park.

Our verdict?  Beautiful gardens with lots to see, plenty of wildlife such as geese, swans, coots, etc and very picturesque views with pretty little temples.  Here are some of our photographs of Stowe gardens:

View across the lake to a circular temple, with a statue of Leda and the swan.

Grotto and small lake
and a very cute gosling!
