Help ma boab! Snow in October!

Help ma boab, it is snowing in deepest, darkest Hertfordshire in October! I could understand it if we lived in the Arctic or bonny Scotland, but not so far south! As Bev was driving to work this morning she skidded on black ice, then on her way home she noticed that the rain drops were turning into something suspiciously like sleet. After dinner Paul looked outside and gasped - yup, the ground was covered in snow!
