We had a great weekend of racing at Brum and Northampton, and stayed in a lovely Premier Travel Inn at North Rugby - it comes highly recommended as you can eat as much as you want for breakfast, with the result that we all had fat little tummies on Sunday morning :-)
Anyway, back to the racing. Poor Frankie had an abysmal Saturday night at Birmingham - firstly, his rear axle broke in practise, so he had to replace it before he could even race. Having done that, he then only managed to complete a couple of laps before he was buried in the fence by Stuart Smith Jnr - this looked like payback for Frankie fencing Stuart at Skegness. Frankie had to qualify for the final via the consolation race, then pulled out of the final with more mechanical problems. But Frankie's not a quitter so he and his car were out again for the Grand National and he did very well, coming in 2nd.
Then we went to Northampton the following day for more excellent racing! And Frankie did very much better today, winning the final and coming 5th in the Grand National from a lap down. Poor Tom Harris's car burst into flames, but he managed to get it onto the infield before being hauled from the car and plunged into a barrel of cold water! So, did he abandon racing for the day? Did he chookie! He was round at Frankie's transporter to borrow a racing suit and was out in his car in the next race! We were very impressed and we hope Tom isn't too badly burned.
Frankie also won the final at Sheffield on Monday evening. Way to go, Frankie!
And finally, Frankie Senior (Frankie's daddy) was racing in both F1 Stock Cars and V8s all weekend, doing very well for someone who is retiring in a month's time. Way to go, Frankie Senior!
So, in summary, it was an action-packed weekend with lots of brilliant racing, the hotel had a comfy big bed and lots of yummy food, and the weather was warm and dry. What a perfect weekend!
