In the Scottish Championship at Cowdenbeath, poor Frankie got shunted by Andy Smith and ended up riding the wall, though he recovered well and continued racing to come in 3rd behind Craig Uttley (1st) and Andy Smith (2nd). Carlos (the real Carlos, not Bev’s dad) rolled his car and did a lot of damage to it. Here he is working on his car.Well done to Craig – we clapped our little paws when we heard he had won. We were a bit disappointed that Frankie didn’t win it yet again (he has won it 5 times in a row) but it was an exciting race! Frankie won a heat, came 3rd in the Scottish Championship and 2nd in the Grand National, so not a bad night’s racing.
This was our first visit to Knockhill, so we weren’t sure what to expect. As Bill said, we took our reflective vests and Jimmy wigs just in case we were needed as Scottish track marshals, but they were too well organised to need a couple of amateurs like us! The facilities, including the loos and food, were brilliant, and we particularly liked the scary seating – there is no safety fence, just a piece of crash barrier and some tyres to protect you from the cars. Wow, what an adrenaline rush! Frankie had another mixed day, with a heat and Grand National win, but the final went to Andy Smith who drove really well. We particularly liked the little gravel pits, which Gordon Moodie described as “kitty litter” – they really slowed the drivers down if they got caught in them.
Gordon drove brilliantly, with a heat, final and Grand National win.
And, on a scale of 1 (not bad at all) to 5 (serious Desperate Dan stubble / mud-pack look), how mucky did Bev get? Quite mucky actually, and not all on her face either - her smart Frankie fleece got covered in dirt too. We gave her a 4 for muckiness, but thanks to the nice lady, her fleece is clean again.
So, all in all, a great weekend’s racing!
